Inside Line Promotions – BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (March 9, 2016) – Johnny Herrera has been oh so close to winning a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship several times in his career.

Herrera has finished in the top four in the championship standings each of the last five years, including within 112 points of the champion the past three years. After getting a handful of 410ci sprint car races under his belt to get the kinks out of the system so far in 2016, Herrera is hopeful this is the season to get over that hurdle to capture his first career national championship.

Herrera kicks off the ASCS National Tour campaign this Friday and Saturday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., for the Sooner State Showdown.

“Our goal has been to win the national title each year the last few seasons and we’ve come up just a bit short,” he said. “It would be a big boost to get the season off to a strong start this weekend so hopefully we can put together two good nights at Creek County.”

Herrera was victorious during his lone race at the bullring last season. He also earned an eighth-place finish at Creek County Speedway in 2014 and placed fourth during races in 2013 and 2012.

“It’s a tight, little track so you will almost always be surrounded by cars whether you’re in the lead or racing midpack,” he said. “The key is to get your car handling well so you can maneuver around the track.”

Herrera scored three ASCS National Tour victories last season. He has 11 triumphs with the series since 2011.
