Inside Line Promotions – LAS VEGAS (March 8, 2016) – Chase Johnson had an eye-opening experience last weekend during his debut at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas.

Although Johnson didn’t qualify for either FVP Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, he and the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned team are proud of the progress and information gained.

“We learned quite a bit and built our notebook up over the weekend,” Johnson said. “We threw changes at it that we normally don’t do and that worked in our favor. I’ve heard that’s one of the toughest, if not the toughest, track on the West Coast swing with the Outlaws so we can’t hang our heads.”

Johnson kicked off the event on Thursday by qualifying 35th quickest on the unique half-mile oval. He then placed eighth in a heat race before finishing 13th in the Last Chance Showdown.

“We just struggled a little bit,” he said. “I felt good in the car and felt comfortable. It was one of those deals it just didn’t show in the times or in the positions. We passed cars and were racy, but on that type of surface that’s their bread and butter for those Outlaw guys. They are used to it and good on it.”

Johnson timed in 30th quickest during qualifying on Friday before ending eighth in a heat race and 11th in the Last Chance Showdown.

“Any time you show up with the World of Outlaws or really any type of sprint car race it’s heavily based off your qualifying time,” he said. “We weren’t able to qualify well either night and it put us in a tough situation. You can’t really expect too much when you go to a track you haven’t been and the team hasn’t been and you’re going against the Outlaws. We’ll take what we learned and move forward.”

The team is scheduled to return to competition with the World of Outlaws this Friday and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.
