Inside Line Promotions – BAYTOWN, Texas (March 1, 2016) – Travis Rilat capped his season debut in a 410ci winged sprint car with a solid performance last Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway.

Rilat rebounded from being in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Last Chance Showdown at the O’Reilly Auto Parts presents the World of Outlaws hosted by Kasey Kahne by picking up a 16th-place finish.

“It could have been better, but it wasn’t bad,” he said. “It wasn’t what we wanted, but we rolled the car back into the trailer in one piece and we learned some things so it was a good night. For as rare as we run 410s we did fairly decent.”

The night began with qualifying being wiped out because of a scoring issue. That lined heat races up based on the pill draw, which started Rilat on the inside of the third row for a heat.

“We weren’t that good,” he said. “We could have had the car a lot better.”

Rilat ended with a sixth-place result, which missed a lock-in position to the feature by only one spot and forced him to compete in the Last Chance Showdown. He then advanced from fourth to third place in the consolation race to transfer into the back of the main event.

“I had a good car for where we started at,” he said. “I was up to 13th and I blistered the tires. So the tires gave up on me and we backed up to 16th. I just needed to have a little better throttle control.”

Rilat will take this weekend off before returning to action on March 11 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and March 12 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
