Inside Line Promotions – BAYTOWN, Texas (March 1, 2016) – Josh Baughman knocked the rust off last weekend when he made his season debut with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“We struggled a little bit,” he said. “The driver was a little rusty. It’s just part of it. We fought through it. We know what not to do now.”

The weekend began on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, for the ATX Rentals Outlaw Shootout. Baughman qualified 27th quickest and he was involved in a heat race crash that knocked his front end out, which forced Baughman into the Last Chance Showdown.

“We started rolling better and figuring things out toward the end of the night,” he said. “I started driving a little different. We never like to be in B Mains, but we took it as a good thing. Any laps we can get will help us.”

Baughman quickly rallied into fifth place and he was only one spot out of a transfer into the main event late in the race before he finished sixth.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts presents the World of Outlaws hosted by Kasey Kahne.

“We were good in hot laps,” he said. “The timer went out so we didn’t get to time in. That lined the heat races up based on the pill draw. I felt like we were good, but I made a couple of mistakes that knocked us out of a transfer.”

Baughman ended sixth in a heat race to miss a lock-in position by only one spot. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, which he started on the outside of the front row.

“We were in a transfer spot and we had some parts failures,” he said. “It was a bummer because I felt like we would transfer in and get those extra laps to learn more.”

The mechanical problem forced Baughman to the pits early in the consolation race.

He is scheduled to return to competition this Thursday and Friday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas and Sunday at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., for the NAPA Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws. Baughman hasn’t competed at either track.

“We need to go out and try to put the car in the A Main,” he said. “Our goal is to make good laps and not make the same mistakes twice.”
