Inside Line Promotions – QUINTER, Kan. (March 1, 2016) – It’s been a little more than five months since Zach Blurton raced a winged sprint car.
The offseason ends this week as Blurton is slated to compete on Friday and Saturday at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, for the Red River Roundup with the Sprint Series of Oklahoma.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been back in things,” he said. “We’re starting the year out with a brand new car. We’re going into the year blind. It might be a lot of learning what works and what doesn’t, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Blurton has returned to a Maxim chassis for the first time since 2010 and he hopes the transition will be seamless this weekend at Red River Speedway, where he placed seventh during his lone race last year.
“It reminds me of a small Dodge City Raceway Park,” he said. “It’s a fun, fast track with a wall around it and I’m not afraid to get up by the wall. There will be a lot of good cars down there. I’d say a couple of top 10s to star the year would be good momentum.”
Blurton has more than 60 winged sprint car races on his 2016 schedule.
“The goal for this year is to run all the URSS National races again with the Kansas Region,” he said. “We’ll also run for IMCA National and state points. It also has a rookie of the year deal that I’m eligible for so we’ll aim for that. Plus, we’ll try to hit enough shows with our 360 to run the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 Sprint Car Series deal.”
Blurton is coming off a career-best season when he earned his first career sprint car championship by winning the United Rebel Sprint Series Kansas Region. He also recorded his second straight runner-up finish in the URSS National standings and he tied a season high with three feature victories.
