[b WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (2-7-10)-] It is with great sadness that all of us at Steve Harris Racing and the Racing for the Troops Sprint Car Team have lost our founder and our dear friend, Steve Harris on Saturday, February 6, 2010 following a long courageous battle with cancer.
"We are all very saddened in this time of loss," said Bobby McMahan, primary driver for the Racing for the Troops and a key associate of World Environmental Energy Group. "Steve fought a hard fight to the very end and made every attempt to be involved in our day to day operations, it was a life he loved. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family."
McMahan and Harris raced to their first championship together in 2009 at Silver Dollar Speedway. Steve's son, Kyle Harris finished as a runner up to the Rookie of the Year title as well. In January Harris was named the Silver Dollar Speedway Humanitarian of the Year for his contributions to local racing and our military.
Steve had a love for racing and a passion to support and honor our active and retired military members. The team is proud to continue that tradition in Steve's honor in the year to come and will continue educating the public on the needs of those returning from war and supporting activities which provide resources to America's active military, veterans and their families.
Details on services for Steve Harris remain to be announced at this time. The Racing for the Troops Sprint Car Team will tentatively begin their season in March for the annual Mini Gold Cup. Learn more about the team by visiting their website at www.racingforthetroops.com.
