McMahan Scores First Top-10 With Destiny Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: As the Winter Heat Showdown came to a tough close, Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team were able to pick up their first Top-10 of the season during Friday night’s event.

“We all felt like we were gaining on it as the week progressed, and we were in a good spot on Friday night before really struggling on Saturday night,” Paul McMahan said. “We made four features in five nights, and evidently there is something about Saturday night at the Winter Heat Showdown because I missed the final feature last year as well.”

Friday night at the Cocopah Speedway, McMahan lined the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine up in the third row of his heat race.

Racing his way to a third place finish, the Nashville, TN driver would advance to second in his qualifier from his fourth starting position and found himself in the third row of the 30-lap feature event.

The initial start saw McMahan get a great jump as he picked up a few positions, but the yellow flag would fly, and the start would be negated. The next attempt at a start did not workout for McMahan as he would lose a few positions and slide back into the 10th spot.

Battling with Darryn Pittman, Joey Saldana, and Bud Kaeding, McMahan would search around the Cocopah Speedway as he worked to get back the positions he lost on the start.

As passing proved to be tricky on Friday, McMahan would close his night out with the first Top-10 finish with the Destiny Motorsports team.

Looking to build off of Friday’s result, McMahan and company came into Saturday’s finale looking to close the five-race series out on a high note, but unfortunately things did not quite go as planned.

Lining up fifth in his heat, McMahan would struggle in the opening stages of the race, ultimately pulling his machine off the racing surface.

Finding himself in the last row of his qualifier, the California native would finish in the seventh spot which put him in the fifth row of the B Main.

Taking advantage of a couple competitors misfortune, McMahan would work his way up to finish in the sixth spot, which would bring his Winter Heat Showdown to a close.

“We certainly had an up and down week, but this team stayed upbeat and positive which is sometimes tough to do,” McMahan added. “I am confident we will work hard over the next month and hopefully come out of the box strong in Florida.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, FK Rod Ends, Walker Performance Filtration, GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their continued support.
