Freeman Logs Lots of Laps Throughout Busy Tulsa Shootout

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 4, 2016) – Cody Freeman gained valuable experience last weekend during the 31st annual Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout, where he competed in four classes throughout the premier micro sprint event at Tulsa Expo Raceway.

“It went pretty well overall,” he said. “Even though the results weren’t great, it was a great experience.”

Freeman’s best performance came in the nonwing “A” class division, where he powered from ninth to a sixth-place result during a heat race on the bullring. That lined him up on the pole of a C Main, which he led until the closing laps when a part broke.

“I was leading until my right front spindle snapped in half,” he said. “When it snapped the front tire rolled under the car and the axle caught on the ground. I was going into turn one and it snapped, caught and I started flipping.”

Although he crashed and was unable to finish, it was a confidence booster for Freeman.

His best result came in winged “A” class, in which Freeman once again rallied from ninth to sixth place in a heat race. That started him on the inside of the second row of a C Main.

“It was close,” he said. “The final transfer car was only a car length ahead of us. On the start of the race he pulled away from us and then the top two started hitting each other. I followed their lines and I caught them at the end.”

Freeman’s third-place result missed a transfer by only one position.

Unfortunately, the outlaw class didn’t go as well for Freeman. He placed sixth in both the nonwing and winged heat races, but was caught up in a couple of incidents in the nonwing C Main that resulted in a DNF.

“On the start we were going into turn one and a car turned right on me,” he said. “They had an opening with the wall and some hay bales. It caused me to go head on into the wall. Then about two laps after the restart a car rode the wall and ended up flipping and he landed on top of me.

“We had to scratch from the winged C Main because that crash bent the downtube, which messed up the wing posts. We couldn’t get them situated to have them secure.”

Freeman is scheduled to kick off his outdoor season on Feb. 19 at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, with the NOW600 Series.
