Inside Line Promotions – BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (Dec. 29, 2015) – Johnny Herrera will make his first 410ci winged sprint car start at Cocopah Speedway this Friday in almost 25 years.

Herrera is tackling the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at the 3/8-mile oval in Somerton, Ariz., where he last competed with a 410ci engine in early 1991 with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

“I was back there when the Outlaws raced,” he said. “I’ve ran a handful of ASCS National Tour races since then, but this will be my first 410 since the early 1990s.”

Herrera will kick off the five-race Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which features a purse of approximately $250,000 as well as a $10,000 points fund, on Friday at the $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start event.

“We want to go out there and knock the dust off,” he joked. “I’m going to run a different design on the Maxim chassis and try it one of the nights. I’ll do a little experimenting. I’m looking forward to having a good time, being in warm weather and getting back in the swing of things.”

Herrera competed in 10 ASCS National Tour events at Cocopah Speedway between 2012-14. He powered to a pair of podium finishes, three top fives and six top 10s. The Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown will mark his first time at the track since the end of 2014.

“I think it’s great,” he said. “It’s a good chance for us to make a little money. It’s in the middle of winter. How much more could you ask?

“I want to thank all of my sponsors for their support and to Heidbreder Foundation Services for coming on board for the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown. We can’t wait to get the year started.”

Herrera will also race at Cocopah Speedway on Saturday, next Tuesday and Jan. 8-9 as part of the event.
