Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Dec. 29, 2015) – Chase Johnson, who is fresh off his King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year Award, is ready to get back to work.
Johnson will pilot a Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car throughout the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which begins this Friday at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.
“It’s been highlighted on our calendar being the first race of the year and a place we’ve never been to,” he said. “It’s new and fresh in the sprint car world and we can’t wait to be a part of it. I’ve been studying races there quite a bit lately. I’ve been watching videos and in-car stuff to get myself as prepared as I can.”
Friday’s $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start event is the first of five races in nine days at the 3/8-mile oval. There is also a $10,000 points fund up for grabs in addition to the total event purse of approximately $250,000.
“We’re going to mainly focus on putting ourselves in the show each night and rolling the car back in the trailer,” he said. “I ran a speedweek in Oregon two years ago and that was so much experience gained doing that. Something like this, with this level of competition, is going to be incredible for us to learn from.
“We’re going there with a good motor and a good car. I feel really, really comfortable with our whole program. The track is nice and wide and slick and that’s something I like. I’m looking forward to the next two weeks of racing in the desert.”
Johnson will also compete at Cocopah Speedway on Saturday, next Tuesday and Jan. 8-9.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing
During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.
“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”
Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
