Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Nov. 17, 2015) – Derek Hagar’s season in his own sprint car ended on its side last Saturday during the USCS Fall Nationals at Riverside International Speedway.

“We were running seventh when we got crashed,” he said. “It’s a little bitter. You always want to go into the offseason on a good note, but you can’t always come out on top. Things don’t always fall the way you want.”

Hagar kicked off the USCS event by advancing from fifth to third place during a heat race.

“We got a good start and got up to fourth pretty quickly,” he said. “We got to third a couple of laps later. It was pretty racy. The track had some good moisture in turns one and two. Turns three and four were slick so you could do some slide jobs.”

That locked Hagar into the ninth starting position for the 40-lap main event on the quarter-mile bullring.

“I fell back a couple of spots early,” he said. “I got stuck on the bottom and had a couple of cars drive around us. We were finally able to get to the top. The track was pretty challenging. With a few laps to go we got into it with another car and got put on our lid.”

Hagar was battling just outside the top five when the incident occurred with a handful of laps remaining. He was unable to restart the race and was credited with a 14th-place finish.

“We’ve already started on a new car and are preparing like we always do to come out strong in the first race next season,” he said.

Hagar will wrap up this season on Dec. 5 when he will drive for Hardy Maddox during the Top Gun Sprints season finale at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla.
