Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2015) – The 2015 season was a roller coaster ride for Dominic Scelzi.

“I feel like this year we covered the highest of highs and lowest of lows,” he said. “This year saw the best part of this sport and also the worst. However, it was another great learning year for me as a young driver.”

Scelzi was sidelined for a month and a half because of a back injury he sustained during a hard crash in late July. While the time off was agonizing, it provided the perfect perspective for the young Californian.

“I think the biggest thing I learned is to enjoy what I’m doing; not worry about the end factor, just do the best I can and enjoy myself,” he said. “I think the people who help out saw a big change in my attitude and my driving.”

Scelzi returned from his summer injury in early September and promptly picked up his second King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series triumph of the season.

“They were both big wins for completely different reasons,” he said. “When I won in Stockton in June I felt like I had been in a low point in my career and I felt beat. I wasn’t in the right mindset of how a driver should be. I was doing the same thing week to week and not enjoying what I was doing. That win rejuvenated me and made me feel like I did belong.

“The one in Hanford in September was really big because I’d just come off a back injury and we had lost the King of the West championship. I think that was a big statement for everybody else that we’re still here and we’re one of the best cars. Those are big staples of the year and huge wins for different reasons.”

While Scelzi’s bid for his first career King of the West title was halted, he found a new route after his return. Scelzi joined forces with Danny and George Lasoski for an FVP National Sprint League doubleheader at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., in early October.

“Another great moment this season was the second night at I-80 being able to run third at a place I’d never been at,” he said. “A lot of those guys out there are top notch and that was big for me confidence-wise because that prompted a trip to North Carolina at the end of the season and who knows what can come of that.”

Scelzi scored a pair of top 10s at I-80 Speedway, where he capped the weekend by finishing third after racing side by side with Steve Kinser in the closing laps. Scelzi then ended his season with the Lasoski’s at the prestigious World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., earlier this month thanks to help from Phil Durst and Lincoln Auto Auction.

While plans for next season are still in development, Scelzi noted his gratitude for his family, fans and sponsors in helping him achieve success following the back injury.

“I can’t thank all of my supporters enough for everything this year,” he said. “Also, it was a huge help with Kyle Kenoyer coming on board and working with someone that’s on the same page. I’m really looking forward to 2016 and continuing to advance my career.”

Scelzi will kick off next year at the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which will be held Jan. 1-2, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9 at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.
