Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 10, 2015) – Dale Blaney charged to a fifth-place finish last Sunday during the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals to cap his season.
It marked the 38th top five of the season for the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team, which kicked off the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Thursday by qualifying 18th quickest for Friday’s program and 11th for Saturday.
“I was disappointed we didn’t qualify better,” Blaney said. “That was the only downfall of the weekend. The weather dictated a lot with the track conditions for Friday night. It made it where it was tough to pass. We didn’t put ourselves in good positions to get anything done.”
Blaney finished ninth in a heat race before the team elected to call it a night and skip starting in the C Main on a rough track.
“We didn’t want to tear anything up so we just loaded it up and thought we’d give Saturday a go,” he said.
Weather postponed Saturday’s season finale to Sunday afternoon and Blaney took advantage of a completely different track surface. He picked up a position during a heat race to finish third, which locked the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team into the 20th starting position for the main event.
“We got to third at the start of our heat race and that’s about all we could do,” he said. “In the feature I thought the track would take rubber earlier and get one lane for most of it, but it stayed racy for most of the time. I thought it was a great race track. It suited our style better being that it was slick.”
Blaney worked his way into the top 10 by the midpoint of the feature.
“I got a really good restart on Lap 8,” he said. “I think I was lined up 15th and (Daryn) Pittman was right in front of me. He got a really good start and I followed him. Daryn and I worked our way through there and I think we were the best cars working on the bottom.”
Blaney advanced a dozen positions by driving through the slick groove toward the bottom of the track. However, that lane became the preferred lane and took rubber in the closing laps as Blaney rallied to post a fifth-place result.
“That was fun,” he said. “We’ve done that the last three Outlaw races. We’ve had to come from the back and make our way through there. Any time you can pass 15 cars in an Outlaw race it’s pretty awesome.”
