Inside Line Promotions – BOYD, Texas (Nov. 9, 2015) – Cody Freeman overcame early adversity as he charged to his 16th top 10 of the season during his debut at Boyd Raceway last Saturday.
Freeman, who was driving an A Class nonwing micro sprint for Gengo Racing, was involved in a crash during his heat race that resulted in him getting upside down.
“We were half a straightway behind two cars,” he said. “They spun out and when they did it was taking up the whole track. I didn’t have good rear brakes so when I hit them the left front locked up and I spun out. When that happened I hit someone with my right rear and it turned me over.”
Freeman was unable to finish his heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. However, he rallied to maneuver from seventh to a fourth-place finish to score the final transfer into the main event. That lined him up last for the feature.
“Patience,” he said of what he learned early in the night. “In the feature people were making it two lanes, but the bottom was the best lane. I got a really good start going into turn one and picked off positions as best I could.”
Freeman methodically advanced throughout the main event as he charged from his 24th starting position to a ninth-place result, a feat considering there were more than 50 drivers at the start of the night.
“It was exciting, especially not being in our own car,” he said. “That was a great end to the night. I want to thank everyone at Gengo Racing for another opportunity.”
Freeman is tentatively scheduled to return to action Nov. 27-28 at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, where he scored a podium finish during his last race.
