Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (Oct 21, 2015) Matt Covington had a pair of solid 3rd place finishes during this past weekend’s action at Devil’s Bowl with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
On Friday night, Matt and the team took on the first night of the Devil’s Bowl double header weekend.
After a mid-pack draw, Covington rallied in the heat to finish 2nd from the 7th starting spot, landing him in the night’s redraw. Unfortunately, Matt found himself starting 8th in the A Main. In the feature, Matt got a great jump on the start and breached the top-5 in the first few laps. Matt was able to continue forward progress inside the top-5 and quickly found himself in 3rd. Covington drove hard in attempt to catch and pass the two leading cars. However, he ultimately had to settle for a podium finish at the checkers, securing a lock-in starting spot for Saturday.
Saturday night Covington and the crew prepped the car for a strong run after gaining the lock-in starting spot from the previous night’s effort.
During the redraw, Matt drew the 6th pill for the main event which lined him up in the 3rd row. At the drop of the green, Covington quickly battled toward the front trying to run down the leaders. Matt was able to work inside the top-5 and into 3rd by the midrace point. While racing out front on top, Matt was unable to find the rubber being laid down by the rest of the field. The track conditions and tire management conclusively forced Covington to settle for the 3RD finishing position again at the drop of the checkers, capping off the back-to-back 3rd’s and double header weekend.
“This past weekend was a tad disappointing for me because I wanted to win one of the nights really bad after the season we have had. But, honestly, I can’t be disappointed in our results as it was a very solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a very good night Friday and were able to go forward in the heat and feature to lock us in for Saturday. On Saturday we burned the LR tire off in lock-in hot laps so we came back in and prepared for those conditions. We moved forward in the feature but just wasn’t able to get those last two spots we needed. But we still need to be proud because that makes three 3rd place finishes in a row and gives us some momentum going into the Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway. Hopefully we can have a strong run there and showcase all the supporters for giving us the chance this year along with the resources needed to be out here on the National Tour.”
