Mike Spencer and Damion Gardner continue their torrid battle for the 2015 AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car championship in this Friday and Saturday night's Sands Chevrolet “Hall of Fame Classic” at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz.
Spencer is eyeing an unprecedented sixth series title, while Gardner is seeking his third in a row and fourth overall. Gardner has seven wins already this season, while Spencer’s lone win came in September at Petaluma, Calif. Spencer’s consistency has made the difference so far. He has only one “non-top-10” blemish on his 2015 slate, while he’s climbed the “podium” nine time this season.
Both have a previous USAC victory at Canyon. Spencer won there in 2013 and Gardner last year. The two winningest USAC/CRA drivers ever, they have amassed 100 victories (Gardner 64 and Spencer 36).
Spencer enters this weekend’s races at Peoria with a 40-point lead. Third-place driver Richard Vander Weerd trails Gardner by 54 points in the latest standings.
The USAC/CRA series will conclude November 19-21 in the “Western World Championships” at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. following the 20th “Budweiser Oval Nationals” at Perris, Calif. November 12-14.
