Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (Oct. 6, 2015) – After looking at a dire forecast for Central Pennsylvania, Dale Blaney and his Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team decided to race closer to home last weekend.
Blaney, who had planned to head to the 53rd annual National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., competed on Sunday at Atomic Speedway during the Freedom 40.
“We made the decision Wednesday night not to head to the National Open,” he said. “We were going to sit over there for three days and do nothing. We weren’t sure they were even going to get Sunday in. It tore me in half not running that race.”
Blaney kicked off the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association event at Atomic Speedway by qualifying third quickest around the rough track.
“They had some rain and it was rough,” he said. “It got really rough in turns one and two. You couldn’t run anywhere but the bottom two lanes. In turns three and four you could move around a bit. It wasn’t a normal Atomic race track that we run good at it.”
Blaney finished second in a heat race, which locked the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored car into a redraw that lined Blaney up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
“It was tough to really race,” he said. “It was 50-50 whether you’d load it up or not. It was one of those survival things and take what you can get.”
Blaney ran a conservative race and battled inside the top five for most of the feature before recording a fourth-place result. It was his 36th top five of the season.
Blaney, who has wrapped up his sixth UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions title, will close out the All Star season this Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio.
“We haven’t won at Eldora in a couple of years,” he said. “It’s always fun to win over there. I felt like we ran really good there the last time with the Outlaws to come from the back to fifth. I feel like I know how the track will be. I have a lot of confidence going in there this weekend.”
