Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Oct. 5, 2015) – Last weekend turned out extremely different than Trey Starks planned.

Starks flew across the country to compete during the 53rd annual National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for Jeff McCall. However, after raining out on Thursday and seeing the extended forecast of wet weather throughout the weekend Starks returned to his home state to compete in the season finale at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday.

“The track was pretty hooked up, which was standard for this year,” he said. “We were in the scramble since we ranked eighth in points. We got two spots at the start and then fell in line.”

Starks, who was the last car in the eight-car scramble lined up by track points, advanced from eighth to sixth place during the scramble. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“In the feature we were really good early,” he said. “There’s something about this race we’re always competitive at. The track circumstances are always the same. It’s always hooked up.

“We got up to third within five laps and we had passed Jay Cole for second with 10 laps down. There was a caution so we got put back a spot. Early in the race we were really, really good. As the race went on and the track got smoother and slicker we fell off a bit. We were just too loose at the end. We got passed on the last lap running third.”

Starks ended with a fourth-place result, which was his 26th top five of the season.

“We definitely learned something,” he said. “It’s the first time in a while we made the car do the things that it did. It was definitely a productive night.”

Starks will take this weekend off before making his debut with McCall at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., on Oct. 16-17 with the United Sprint Racing Series.
