Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Sept. 30, 2015) – Kasey Kahne Racing driver and former World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Daryn Pittman will compete throughout the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown next January.

The marquee 410ci sprint car event, which features $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start races on Jan. 1-2 and Jan. 8-9 with a $5,000-to-win midweek event on Jan. 5, will mark Pittman’s debut at Cocopah Speedway.

“We watched pretty much all of them (last year on Pay-Per-View),” he said. “I’ve watched quite a few laps. It looks fun. Watching it reminds me of the track in Tucson, flat and wide and fast. That’s one of my favorite tracks and we’ve always done well there. It looked like a fun event last year. I know Kasey (Kahne) enjoyed it. I had some other commitments and couldn’t make it.”

The 2016 Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown has been circled on Pittman’s calendar since the successful inaugural event in January 2015.

“It’s really big and hopefully it gets more car support and fan support,” he said. “I hope it just keeps growing because it has a lot interest from drivers who want to drive in the winter time. To stay sharp in the car and try out new things since we’re not racing for points. There’s a lot of positives to being able to do this in the winter time.

“Christmas and New Year’s all run together pretty quick. Your priorities change and family definitely is No. 1. I do as much as I can to provide for them and spend as much time with them. As a driver you enjoy your offseason, but you’re searching for paychecks, too.”

Pittman is currently entrenched in a battle to climb back into the top five in the World of Outlaws championship standings after he missed two races earlier this season following a broken collarbone. He currently ranks sixth – 63 points out of the top five – and is only 87 points out of third place.

“My main goal only sitting out two races was to come back and we thought we could really compete for second or third in the championship if we had performed like we had the two previous years,” he said. “It’s been a struggle. The points are out of our mind and we’re focused on running well. We’re running the best we’ve run consistently all year so hopefully we can end the season like this and continue it throughout Winter Heat and into the 2016 World of Outlaws season.”
