Inside Line Promotions – OBERLIN, Kan. (Sept. 22, 2015) – Zach Blurton capped the Bob Salem Sprint Nationals with a stout performance last Sunday at Decatur County Speedway.

Blurton rallied from his first B Main of the year to finish sixth in the A Main, which was his 23rd top 10 of the season and kept him in the hunt for championships in the United Rebel Sprint Series National and Kansas Region.

Blurton heads into this Saturday’s URSS National and Kansas Region season finale at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., ranked second in national points – 20 out of the lead – and leading the Kansas Region by 16 points.

“It wasn’t a great weekend, but it wasn’t a bad weekend either,” he said. “It was a good weekend for points. I got back into the lead in the Kansas Region.”

The doubleheader began on Saturday with Blurton advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I fell back a long way in the first few laps,” he said. “I think I was 12th at one time. I got going a little bit toward the end and got back around some cars to where we started at least. We were just too loose.”

Blurton overcame the slow start to post a seventh-place finish.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with Blurton finishing where he started – sixth – in a heat race, which relegated him to the B Main.

“I was down on myself after not doing very good in the heat,” he said. “That was our first B Main we’ve ran all year, but we got it going.”

Blurton placed fourth in the consolation race to transfer into the main event, which he started on the inside of the ninth row.

“It took me a long time to get going,” he said. “I didn’t start passing many cars until there were 10 laps to go. We had a yellow and on the restart that’s when I really started going. I think I was in 13th or so. I got by a few more cars on that restart and then we had a red flag. They opened it up and we tuned the car a little. On the last restart with two laps to go I got two more cars to end up sixth. Sunday was really good coming from the back all the way up there. I just needed more laps.”

Blurton’s charge to a sixth-place result earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
