Kody Swanson enters this Saturday’s “4-Crown Nationals” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio with an enviable record on dirt in the USAC Silver Crown Championship Series.
Swanson has a comfortable 100-point lead over Jerry Coons Jr. in the standings on his way to a second consecutive series title, but his dirt-track record the past two years has been nothing short of sensational. Not only has he won seven of the last 12 races, he has started on the front row eight times and led nearly half of the scheduled laps (445 of 1,028).
He finished ninth at Eldora last year after starting on the front row and leading 28 of the 50 laps in his Radio Hospital/Hampshire Racing Engines Maxim/Chevy.
Coons is the defending “4-Crown” Silver Crown champion and needs another victory to remain a serious title contender with only the October 10 race at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse left on the calendar after Eldora. Coons also won the “4-Crown” in 2007.
Former “4-Crown” Silver Crown winner Chris Windom (2013) is also among pre-race favorites. He is currently fifth in the standings.
