Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 15, 2015) – Zach Blurton is within striking distance of the United Rebel Sprint Series National championship heading into a doubleheader this weekend.

Blurton ranks fourth in the championship standings – only 20 points out of the lead – as the series ventures to Decatur County Speedway in Oberlin, Kan., this Saturday and Sunday for two of the final three races this season.

“We have to finish in front of the guys in front of me in points,” he said. “We have to go for wins. We haven’t raced at Decatur County too much. I think I’ve ran two times there and we’ve run decent both times.”

Blurton is coming off a stout performance during the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Nationals at Eagle Raceway Sept. 4-7, where nearly 100 competitors competed for the top prize.

“We actually drew good for once both nights and that helped a bunch,” he said. “We made it straight to the A Main from our heat race both preliminary nights.”

Blurton won a heat race on Sept. 4 to lock into the sixth starting position for the feature. Unfortunately, the team fought a loose race car throughout the main event and ended with a 14th-place result.

Blurton returned to the high-banked track the ensuing night and finished second in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“We changed a couple of shocks and did a few other little things and it was really, really good,” he said. “I got stuck on the bottom on the start. As soon as I could get to the top I made some headway.”

Blurton maneuvered to a fourth-place result, which locked him into the 13th starting position during the finale on Monday – a day after the scheduled date because of rain.

“Our goal was to make the A Main and go from there,” he said. “They had five and a half inches of rain that Sunday. The track ended up being a lot wetter than we thought it’d be. It got wetter as the race went on and we were way too tight. I feel good about it though. We accomplished our goal.”

Blurton, who capped the weekend 17th in the feature, also finished second in the best appearing car competition.
