Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2015) – Chase Johnson captured a career-best World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series finish last Sunday at Antioch Speedway.

Johnson guided the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car to a 17th-place finish during only his second career World of Outlaws main event.

“I’m definitely happy about our finish,” he said. “It was a good ending to the night, which didn’t start off as good.”

Johnson opened the event by qualifying 23rd quickest.

“At the beginning of the night the car felt great and I felt great,” he said. “We looked fast, but our times weren’t there. We were behind the eight ball early.”

He then finished where he started – eighth – in a heat race, which relegated Johnson into the Last Chance Showdown.

“With the track not being very racy early it didn’t work out in our favor,” he said. “Later in the night it slicked up and was an advantage for us. It was a little more racy in the Last Chance Showdown. I felt more competitive when the track started slicking up. We were running fifth for a while and the leader spun with a couple of laps to go.”

Johnson scored a fourth-place finish in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“I was passing cars here and there, not really being that aggressive in the feature,” he said. “I found the bottom worked for me really well at the beginning. Later on the top came in within the last five to 10 laps of the race in turns three and four. A couple of guys got around me up there at the end of the race. We were up to 16th and had a pretty good battle going on between me, Bud Kaeding, Colby Copeland and Jason Sides. When the competition is that fierce it’s hard to advance further after starting that far back.”

Johnson maneuvered from 22nd to the 17th-place result.

He is scheduled to return to competition this Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing

During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.

“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”

Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Fast Lube Plus, K&N Filters, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission, Justin Henry Racing and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
