Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Sept. 14, 2015) – Trey Starks is excited to announce that he will be competing at two of the premier World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events remaining this season on the East Coast.
Starks is teaming up with Jeff McCall to tackle the 53rd annual National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Oct. 1-3 as well as the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals Nov. 5-7 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.
“The National Open is a cool race for me,” he said. “We ran in Pennsylvania a little bit the last couple of years. The National Open (in 2013) was one of my best memories. We ended up making the main both nights, which was really cool for me. It was a pretty big moment for my career. I love racing in Pennsylvania.
“I’ve always wanted to run the World Finals. It’s one of the biggest races of the year. The track looks pretty fun. It’s one of the tracks that has been on my bucket list for a while.”
Starks, who recently wrapped up his first track championship at Cottage Grove Speedway and his first series championship with the Western Sprint Tour this season, competed with the World of Outlaws last week in the Northwest.
A week ago Monday, Starks timed in 20th quickest during qualifying at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. He then advanced from seventh to sixth in a heat race, which lined him up on the inside of the 10th row for the main event.
“We just weren’t very good all night long,” he said. “It just wasn’t our night. It was the first time in a long time that we just couldn’t hit on anything. We just weren’t competitive.”
Starks ended with a 16th-place finish.
He had a better start to the night on Wednesday at Cottage Grove Speedway, where Starks qualified 15th quickest – less than one tenth of a second out of the heat race inversion. He placed sixth in a heat to garner the 15th starting position for the feature.
“We found our speed in the main,” he said. “We just didn’t have any luck, which happens. We were running 11th or 12th trying for a top 10 with three laps down. A car spun off the end of the track. David Gravel started to spin in front of me. I checked up and got hit from behind. It was one of those cluster deals. That flattened our left rear tire. We restarted at the back and I think we were up to about 10th with 10 laps to go. We had a caution and when we were idling around I went to pick the throttle back up. We ended up breaking a pushrod so I pulled off. I was really happy with how the car was in the main though.”
Starks closed the event with a 17th-place result.
He is slated to compete this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, where Starks will be crowned the track champion.
