Cottage Grove, Oregon- Kraig Kinser has had a fair amount of success at Cottage Grove Speedway over the years. In 2004 he would win his first career victory with the World of Outlaw Sprint Series, in his first visit to the 1/4-mile clay oval, holding off his father Steve. He would also do it again in 2011. The Bloomington, Indiana native is still in search of his first 2015 victory and he just might find it on Wednesday September 9th when the series comes back to CGS.
“It was my first Outlaw win there so I love going to Cottage Grove,” commented Kinser about that memorable night in 2004, “ me and my dad ran one-two in the race and it was a good deal. It was quite a bit of frustration going up to that point because we had led quite a few races, we just couldn’t get the wins at the end of them, getting the first win out of the way was a good feeling that’s for sure”
In seven visits to “The Grove” he has four top tens including the two aforementioned victories. Headed into the weekend he is eleventh in Outlaw points with four top fives, thirteen top tens, and one fast time award. His best finish over the season was a third at the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite. He had a pair of decent runs at the Oil City Cup last Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was twelfth on August 28th and tenth in the main event on the 29th. The Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey's General Stores/Integra Shocks/King Racing Products #11K XXX team is hoping for a successful Western outing.
“It obviously helps mentally and helps you to prepare your car going into a place like that (Cottage Grove) when you’ve had success”, continued the former Knoxville Nationals winner and Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year recipient, “At the same time, you go there and start struggling a little bit it gets you down because you have had success there and know stuff works there.”
