A double header weekend of racing forecasted the Scott Thiel Motorsports team last weekend and brought them to LaSalle Speedway on Saturday night with the IRA and MOWA series for the Bill Waite Memorial. Scotty was the sixth car out for qualifying and would end up 12th quick out of 40 cars in attendance. He followed that up with a heat race victory and a solid top five finish in the feature event. Sunday brought the team to Angell Park speedway where the IRA faced the tough NSL series. Mechanical issued ended the night early for Thiel but did not hurt the team much in the point standings.
After an early draw in qualifying and being the sixth car out, Thiel felt pretty confident going into IRA/MOWA qualifying at LaSalle Speedway on Saturday night. Mother Nature was acting up during the course of qualifying and let out some rain right before the first set of cars went out. The track was a little slick when Scotty went out but he still managed an 11.722 run which was 12th quick out of 40 cars. In the heat race event, Scotty charged out to the lead on the first lap and never looked back. After ten laps of green flag action, he would go on to score a heat race victory and made the A-main redraw. The redraw number was picked but was not helpful for Thiel as he would have to start the nights 30 lap main event in the tenth position. A challenging track with a difficult cushion was presented for the 24 car field. When the field went green for the A-main event, Scotty charged to the top side of the track right away. He made his way up through the field pretty quick and was within a few car lengths of the top five. An early red flag came out and reset the field. On the restart, Scotty jumped the cushion hard in turn one and fell back a few spots. He felt the car out for a few laps to make sure nothing was wrong. After that, he went into charge mode and began to pick off positions lap after lap. He battled his way around the top side of the track and found himself back in sixth with only a few laps left to go. He continued to build up his momentum and charged into the fifth spot and reeled in the leaders with two laps to go. With the white flag flying, Scotty tried all he could to get another position but fell short at the line. He still managed a solid top five finish and added to the point’s championship. “We had a car capable of winning tonight but the driver just didn’t get it done. I messed up early by jumping the cushion and it got into my head a little. I finally gained some confidence back and began to drive hard again. I didn’t realize how far back I fell but I charged back up and ended up with another top five” Thiel mentioned after the event.
Sunday brought the team north to Angell Park Speedway, once again. This was the fifth showing for the IRA but it was a co-sanctioned show with the new National Sprint League tour. 42 cars were on hand which made for a challenging night. Scotty encountered issues in hot laps which forced the team to scamble before qualifying to change out the rear end in the car. They were able to make it out for qualifying as Scotty was 20th out of the 42 cars. After laying down a 12.403 lap time, Scotty was 19th quick overall. That placed him on the front row of the heat race event. After taking the green flag, Scotty jumped out to the lead and led it for three laps. He got passed but continued to charge forward. With five laps to go, Scotty began to feel a vibration in the car and pulled off with only three laps left. The team discovered a broken valve in the engine and would call it a night as it was not a full IRA points show. “It’s a bummer as I was excited to run with the NSL guys tonight and build on our points chase. Luckily, we shouldn’t lose much points after this but we will focus on running good the next few races” Thiel concluded.
After a strong run the last few events, Scotty finds himself sitting only 71 points out of the lead in the IRA Championship standings. He is currently fifth overall and the battle has just began. Next up on the teams schedule is this coming Sunday night at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek. The first event at the track this season was cancelled due to Mother Nature.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
