Cottage Grove, Oregon- Brownsburg, Indiana's Joey Saldana is excited to be back at Cottage Grove Speedway when the World of Outlaw Sprint Series returns on Wednesday September 9th. Saldana has an amazing performance record at the historical 1/4-mile clay oval when it comes to finishes. In fact the last time he ventured to CGS he was fourth in the feature in 2013. He also is the current all-time track record holder at the facility with a blistering time of 9.991 seconds set in 2007.
“At Cottage Grove we’ve run really well so I’m looking forward to going back,” said Saldana.
Joey has managed to procure one career win, the same night he set the track record, in his eleven trips to Cottage Grove. He also has four top fives and has only finished outside the top ten twice since his first visit in 1996. His worst finish was a twelfth place run back in 2008. He will look for another strong performance during the West Coast Swing which is one of his favorite times of the year.
“This West Coast swing is one of the most fun times of the season. I always look forward to after Knoxville,” continued the two-time winner of both the Gold Cup Race of Champions and Kings Royal, “we go to McCool to Grand Forks, Minot, Edmonton, Skagit, Cottage Grove down to Gold Cup in Chico. I love all these tracks on the West Coast.”
Entering Labor Day Weekend Saldana, the 1996 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year winner with the series, is fifth in the current Outlaws point standings. He has put together thirty top five finishes, forty-four top tens, and a season leading fourteen fast time awards. Among the top fives are two wins which were earned at Kokomo Speeday on June 3rd, in his home state of Indiana, and July 12th in New Richmond, Wisconsin at Cedar Lake Speedway. Last weekend at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada he was third on Friday August 28th and twenty-third on Saturday the 29th at the Oil City Cup in the Paul Motter owned Motter Equipment/HEMSaw/Beltline Body Shop #71M GF1.
