Inside Line Promotions – HAYS, Kan. (Sept. 2, 2015) – Zach Blurton is tackling his biggest event of the season this weekend.
Blurton is headed to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Nationals, which will feature more than 100 competitors vying for the top prize Friday through Sunday.
“With that many cars I’d probably be doing good to make the A Main,” he said. “First off they lock in the top nine drivers from Friday to the first three rows of Sunday’s feature, which they start three-wide. To finish in the top nine to get ourselves locked in would be a great feat for the team.”
Blurton has only competed at the high-banked track once during his career, which was in a 360ci sprint car event.
“It’s a fun track,” he said. “Building and keeping momentum is the key. It will be important to start things off by getting a good draw to put ourselves near the front of a heat race. We don’t normally draw well, but hopefully we’ve been saving our luck for this weekend.”
Blurton is coming off a sixth-place result with the United Rebel Sprint Series Kansas Region last Saturday at RPM Speedway.
“It was one of those nights where we were fast, but so was the track and everybody else,” he said. “The track was hammer down around the top, just wide open. It was really hard to pass.”
Blurton advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race, which locked him into the seventh starting position for the main event.
“The track was really, really wet,” he said. “It was pretty good to get to third in the heat. The car was good. We had a couple of restarts in the main event. One time I passed a car by going to the bottom, but I tried it again later in the race and lost one spot back.”
Blurton battled for a top five throughout the feature before placing sixth, which marked his 20th top 10 of the season.
