PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he did not quite finish where he wanted to during either night of the Oil City Cup, David Gravel and his Desinty Motorsports continued to get stronger over the weekend as they picked up two Top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws at the Edmonton Speedway.
Heading North of the Border as the series heads west, Gravel kicked his weekend off by picking up Desitiny Motorsports’ first fast time award of the year, before racing to a fourth place finish aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine.
Lining up sixth in the Dash, the Watertown, CT driver was able to better his feature event starting position by a row via a fourth place Dash finish. A caution plagued feature event made it tough to get in a groove, and mixing that in with restarts, Gravel would lose a few positions during the course of the feature event.
Searching around the slick Edmonton Speedway looking to get moving forward, Gravel would fend off challenges from Trey Starks and Jason Johnson as he finished in the eighth spot.
Returning to the speedway on Saturday night, Gravel would time in eighth fastest and put his Rick Rogers Construction/Maxim Chassis/Boss Signs and Graphics No. 7 machine on the front row of his heat race.
In what was an entertaining heat, Gravel would make a mid race adjustment from the drivers seat, and make a last lap pass to pick up the win, and earn a berth in the all-important Dash.
As fate would have it, Gravel would line up on the front row of the Dash, and pick up the win to put the Destiny Motorsports machine on the pole for the 30-lap A main event.
Getting the jump, Gravel would grab the early lead as Logan Schuchart and Donny Schatz flanked him. Running the bottom of the speedway, Gravel would begin to feel pressure just as the caution flag waived on the 10th lap.
The ensuing restart saw Gravel miss the bottom and slide up the track, and lose several positions as he was stuck in no-mans-land. Trying to recover and make it work, Gravel would continue to slip back.
Able to settle down, Gravel would pick up a couple of positions that he lost as he closed his weekend out with a seventh place finish.”
“We had some positives this weekend, and that is always a good thing,” Gravel said. “We were able to get in the Dash both nights and put ourselves in a great position. Unfortunately I made some mistakes on Saturday after starting on the pole, and we lost some spots, but I think we are heading the right direction. I have to thank my guys for working so hard, as well as Rick and Barb Rogers for sticking with us, and letting us figure this out.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Rod End Supply, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their support in 2015.
