TULSA, Okla. (August 31, 2015) The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region gets back to action this Labor Day Weekend with three nights of racing at a pair of Missouri ovals.
Starting Friday, September 4, the ASCS Warrior Region will invade the three-eighths mile Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. along with the Impact Signs W.A.R. Non-Wing Sprint Cars. The fairgrounds oval has not seen Sprint Cars in action since 2001 when Randy Martin picked up the win with the former Winged Outlaw Warriors.
Moving two hours south on Saturday, September 5 kicks off two nights of racing at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo. With $1,500 on the line to win Saturday night’s feature event, Sunday’s finale will see someone walking away with $4,000.
Leading the way into the three day weekend is Jonathan Cornell who, when Martin was winning at Scotland County, was just getting into Mini Sprints at the age of 12.
“I’m pretty excited about going to a new racetrack. It’s been a while since Sprint Cars have been to Scotland County and we usually adapt to new tracks pretty well,” commented the driver of the Kiowa Line Builders/VKCC Motorsports No. 28.
“We’re really excited about that, and Moberly. We’ve had some success at Moberly, and seem to get around that racetrack pretty good, plus our whole month of August hasn’t been worth a damn so I’m looking forward to getting to a place that we’re familiar with and hopefully we can get back on the winning side of things.”
What should be the ASCS Warrior Region’s seventh and eighth rounds of competition at the ultra-high banked Randolph County Raceway, Cornell has picked up a trio of wins in five podium appearances. The lowest the Starline Brass No. 28 has finished at the four-tenths mile oval in ASCS competition is fourth.
Leading Evan Martin into the weekend by 112 points, there is a great spirit of competition to secure the 2015 title, while also have respect for the Martin racing family.
“Evan’s progressed a lot over the last few years, and he’s been real competitive. I’ve always like racing with him and Randy both. They’ve always been fast, but we’ve always raced each other clean and we have a good relationship with both those guys but I think going into these next few races to wrap up the season, we just have to make sure we’re on top of stuff and not have any major catastrophes. I think we should be alright as long as we are consistent and keep getting top-fives’, top-threes’, and maybe a couple wins to seal the deal.”
Austin Alumbaugh rides third in tour standings with 2015 Double X Speedway Champion, Ricky Lee Stangl fourth. Corey Nelson completes the top five. The top ten rounds out with Josh Fisher, Tyler Thomas, Kevin Ulmer, Jay Russell, and Tyler Blank.
Friday, September 4 at the Scotland County Speedway opens at 6:00 P.M. with Hot Laps getting underway at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Adult tickets are $15 with discounts for students at the front gate. Kids five years of age and younger are free into the grandstands. More information on the Scotland County Speedway can be found on the track’s Facebook page or by calling (660) 341-8558.
