Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Aug. 31, 2015) – Austen Wheatley has momentum on his side as he returns to a pair of home tracks this weekend with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
Wheatley, who is coming off his career-best result with the premier sprint car series, will compete this Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., before wrapping up the weekend on Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
“I’m really excited to get back to Skagit and Grays Harbor, where I have a lot of laps,” he said. “I think Skagit will be kind of a toss-up since they put new dirt on the surface a couple of weeks ago.”
Wheatley finished 21st with the Outlaws at Skagit Speedway last year. He recorded finishes of 16th and 19th, respectively, in 2013. He also placed 16th in 2011 and 20th in 2010.
“We’ve made almost every World of Outlaws feature we’ve ran there and have had a couple of good runs, but I think we’re capable of earning a top 10 or two this weekend,” he said. “That’s our goal. We want to put down a solid qualifying lap to set ourselves up for a good starting position for the remainder of each night.”
Wheatley scored his best World of Outlaws finish at Grays Harbor Raceway last year with a 14th-place result.
“I’m really looking forward to racing at Grays Harbor,” he said. “It’s one of the nicer facilities and is close to home so it’s always a good time there. Plus, I haven’t been there yet this year so it will be good to see everyone again.”
