Coming off a long break due to Mother Nature and the Knoxville Nationals, the Scott Thiel Motorsports team was more than anxious to get back racing! A three day weekend was set for the team as Friday night kicked off the Kenosha County Fair Special at Wilmot Raceway. Scotty charged his way to the top spot early on but fell short at the end and settled for a 2nd place finish. Saturday night was back at Wilmot and Scotty charged from 13th to 6th in the main and would then follow that performance up on Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the annual Corn Fest event. Thiel would charge from the 4th spot to capture his second podium finish for the weekend with a 2nd place finish.
Friday night at Wilmot Raceway Scotty drew an 8 pill which set him to go out fifth in IRA qualifying. After putting down a 14.107 lap time, it was good enough for third quick overall out of the 34 cars in attendance. That would place Thiel to start 6th in the heat race event. At the drop of the green flag, Thiel took charge right away. He used the top side of the track to storm his way to the front. After three laps of green flag action, Thiel took command of the lead and never looked back. He would capture the heat race win and be eligible for the A-main redraw. The 2 pill was picked during the A-main invert draw which placed Thiel to start on the outside front row of the 30 lap main event. Thiel would take command of the A-main event on the first lap using the high groove. A mix of several caution came about in the first 18 laps of racing but that didn’t stop Thiel from charging away with this lead. On lap 20, Thiel began to enter into heavy lap traffic. He moved around when he could but would go on to jump the cushion in turn three with only 5 laps to go. He regrouped himself, still in the lead but would get slid going into turn three on the next lap and lose the lead. He charged back down the track but just did not have enough to take back the lead. After 30 laps of green flag action took place, Thiel would end up settling for a 2nd place podium finish. “2nd place is good but it’s not a win. We simply got beat tonight. I messed up in lap traffic and he slid me in three. I thought we had a chance back at it but the car just went away. You’re a sitting duck out front and don’t know where they are at times but overall it was still a good night for our team. We’ll charge hard for a win tomorrow” Thiel concluded after the main event.
Saturday evening brought the team back to Wilmot for the final night of the Kenosha County Fair and the Roger Iles Memorial event. Scotty drew a 16 pill which put him out 12th for IRA qualifying. He put down a 14.771 lap time which was 13th quick overall out of 33 cars. That placed him to start third in the heat race event. After going green, Thiel battled his way on the top side of the track but settled for the third position for majority of the race. With two laps to go he slid his way into the second spot and charged after the leader but would run out of laps to do so and settled for a second place finish. He would miss the A-main redraw inversion and would have to start in the 13th position. The track became very slick as the night went on but Scotty knew they would have a decent car to hopefully move up in the field. At the drop of the green flag Thiel worked the low line in turn one. He charged his way to the top side of turn three and began his venture forward. With the help of several cautions over the course of 36 laps, Thiel was able to get solid restarts and slowly pick off cars. He moved his way up to the 7th position with only three laps to go. The white flag flew and Scotty charged hard around the top side of turn one and two. He built up a good amount of momentum and slid his way into the sixth position in the final corner and would cross the line with a respectable top ten finish. “This was a pretty solid run for us honestly. The track was very difficult all night long but we managed to move up seven spots. I really wanted to pull off a win after last night’s upset but this was still a respectable run for us. We’ll try again tomorrow at Sun Prairie.” Scotty mentioned after the main event.
The third and final night of the weekend’s racing action took place 90 miles away in Sun Prairie, WI at Angell Park Speedway. This was annual CornFest event and it brought in a ton of spectators. 25 cars were on hand Sunday and Scotty would end up going out 24th in IRA Qualifying. He put down a solid 12.470 lap time which was 9th quick overall. He would start the heat race event in the fourth position. The field took the green and Scotty began his charge forward. He moved up into the second position after the first lap and would slide his way into the lead the very next lap and never look back. He checked away from the field and pull a full straight-a-way lead and would even go on to enter into lap traffic in just ten laps of racing action. That heat race win would mark the second one of the weekend along with being eligible for the A-main redraw. The lineup was decided and Scotty would end up starting the nights’ 30 lap main event in the fourth position. At the drop of the green flag, Thiel would continue his charge he created in the heat race event. He moved into the second spot in the first lap and began to create a battle for the top spot. In only a few short laps, lap traffic began to be an issue. Scotty went side by side for the lead before getting held up by a lap car and he settled back into the second position. On lap 13 a caution came out and Thiel would have two lap cars between himself and the leader on the restart. The field went back to green flag action and Scotty would be able to get by one lap car but struggled to clear the next one to chase his way back for the top spot. A few laps later, traffic became more of an issue but the leader was in sight. He continued his charge and would finally clear all lap traffic but there was only three laps to go. Scotty was close to a half a lap behind and applied every ounce of horsepower possible but fell short by only a half a straight and settled for a second place finish, earning his second top 5 of the weekend and third top 10. “We had a pretty good weekend for what it was worth. We gave one up Friday. This time we were chasing and I struggled through lapped cars a little bit. Jeremy (Schultz) got through them”, stated Thiel. “We were fast, I think we were one of the fastest cars on the racetrack. This thing was on rails and we ran him down there at the end which was exciting”, noted Thiel about closing the gap in the final laps. “It was a great racetrack”, concluded Thiel.
Next up on the Scott Thiel Motorsports schedule is Saturday night at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL for the Bill Waite Jr Memorial Classic and will finish the weekend back at Sun Prairie on Sunday with the National Sprint League and IRA.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
