Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Seth Bergman swept last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader to establish a new season-high for victories.
Bergman’s pair of regional triumphs, which give him 11 trips to Victory Lane this year, also netted him a $1,000 bonus.
“To start the weekend we saw the ASCS Gulf South Region had back-to-back nights and they had a bonus if you swept both nights,” he said. “My goal was to sweep both nights. The first step to do that is get through Night 1. We got a bad draw and had to overcome that, which we did and that put us in the redraw.”
Bergman kicked off Friday’s event by advancing from seventh to fourth place in a heat race at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 3 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the second row.
“I got to second right away,” he said. “The track was pretty difficult to pass on. It was narrow. I just stayed with Ray (Allen Kulhanek). My original plan was to make something happen in traffic, but we never got in it much. We had a caution with about six or seven laps to go and I knew I was going to have to try something. Once we restarted I tried a line on the track where I wasn’t sure it was going to work. It ended up working and we were able to get by Ray at the end. I went straight to the top in turns three and four and started working it in. I got a run in turns three and four coming to the white flag. We caught two lapped cars and I was able to sneak in front of Ray and got by those lapped cars in turns one and two, which secured the win.”
Bergman officially led the final two laps en route to his 10th win of the season.
He returned to action the ensuing night by making his debut at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas. Bergman charged from eighth to win a heat race, which earned him a spot in the feature redraw. This time he drew the second-highest number – seven – to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the feature.
“The draw definitely makes it difficult,” he said. “When you get a bad draw, you have to be attacking from the green flag. I knew it was 25 laps and it was a big track. You have some time to let things play out. I made sure I made good decisions and took it lap by lap. I think we took the race lead with eight or nine laps to go and checked out.”
Bergman methodically maneuvered through the field and he led the final third of the race to score the triumph.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway, which hosted the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour for the High Roller Classic.
Bergman advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race, which earned him a spot in the dash. He finished fourth in the dash to line up on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap feature.
“I slid Aaron (Reutzel) for second a couple of times and we raced hard,” he said. “I attacked early and made some moves when people were close. As the laps went on we faded. I feel like we had a fifth-place race car.”
Bergman ended with a fifth-place result after a spirited battle in the closing laps.
He is slated to compete this Friday at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Saturday at Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas, with the ASCS Red River Region.
