Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (Aug. 25, 2015) – Brandon Hanks had one of his most frustrating weekends of the season last Friday and Saturday in Texas.

“It wasn’t a good weekend, but that’s just part of racing,” he said.

Hanks and the David Smith Racing team were plagued by a mechanical problem throughout Friday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco.

“We had motor problems all night,” he said. “The car wouldn’t run good at all. It got to where it was missing and popping. We changed a few things which helped, but we didn’t fix the whole problem. We were down on power and didn’t have anything for them.”

Hanks finished where he started – sixth – in a heat race and ended ninth in the B Main.

The team replaced the mag prior to Saturday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Cotton Bowl Speedway, where the engine ran much better. Hanks won his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 during the random draw to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“We had a really good car all night,” he said. “We were a little tight in the heat race. We tightened it up more for the feature thinking the track would be slick. It turned out that was not the right move. I was too left rear tight to run the bottom and I was too right rear tight to run the cushion. I was cheating the cushion trying to run the top.”

Hanks battled for a top five throughout the first third of the main event before he was involved in a crash.

“I didn’t cheat the cushion enough and when I got on the cushion the right rear caught a hole,” he said. “I tried to drive out of it, but I went right into the wall and ended up crashing.”

The impact bent the frame and Hanks was unable to resume racing. He was credited with an 18th-place result.

This weekend’s plans are up in the air as the team is waiting on an engine to be freshened and a new car to be built.
