Inside Line Promotions – QUINCY, Mich. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Dale Blaney powered to a pair of top 10s last weekend during a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader to maintain a sizeable lead in the championship standings.
Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team hold a 213-point advantage with 10 races remaining this season following a sixth-place result last Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., and a ninth-place finish on Saturday at Butler Speedway.
The weekend began with Blaney qualifying fourth quickest – first in his group – on Friday at I-96 Speedway. He then finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race to lock into the main event.
“We didn’t qualify good enough and then it was one lane in the heat races,” he said. “That put us 12th in the A Main. It was hard to pass. We got to sixth, but didn’t make too many passes. We made a decent night out of it. I-96 is a neat facility, but for whatever reason that night it didn’t create a lot of good racing.”
The team ventured to Butler Speedway the ensuing night and Blaney timed in ninth quickest overall – second in his group.
“I went out early and I didn’t really cut a good lap,” he said. “That place is tough. Sometimes it gets better as it goes. It was good enough to be second in our group, but I don’t think there was a pass for position in the heat races. I needed to time better or else time worse to get myself on the front row of a heat.”
Blaney placed third in a heat race to miss a spot in the dash by one position. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.
“It was tough,” he said. “I didn’t pass one car. Sheldon (Haudenschild) blew a tire and another driver spun out. Track position was the key.”
The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored sprint car ended ninth in the feature, which marked Blaney’s 43rd top 10 this season.
Sunday’s event at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, rained out midway through qualifying.
Blaney is set to return to action this Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.
