Inside Line Promotions – EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 24, 2015) – Trey Starks put together a solid outing during his debut at Castrol Raceway last weekend.

Starks drove for Doug Rutz during the Extreme Cup at the 3/8-mile oval, where the action began on Friday with a seventh-place qualifying effort. Starks then maneuvered from fifth to second place in a heat race to advance into the dash, which he won to garner the pole for the preliminary night main event.

“In the main we led from the opening lap until about 10 to go when we had a caution,” he said. “About 10 laps into the race I felt the car starting to act weird. The track was super rough and I felt something hit the car. The tie rod got bent so the tires were going two different ways. The car was a handful to drive. We pulled it in during the caution and tried to straighten the tire rod. We went back out to salvage as many points as we could.”

Starks gave up the lead to allow the team to adjust the car in the work area. He restarted at the back of the field and rallied to post a 14th-place effort, which snapped a streak of 11 straight top-10 finishes. It ranked him 10th in overall points heading into Saturday’s finale.

“We were the last car to qualify on Saturday,” he said. “The track had slicked off quite a bit.”

Starks qualified 11th quickest before advancing from third to second place in a heat race. That kept him 10th in overall points to start the feature on the outside of the fifth row.

“We got into second by around Lap 5 I think,” he said. “It was a matter of chasing down the leader. The motor wasn’t running as good as it could have been on restarts so we had to wait for him to get to lapped traffic. In clean air he was faster than us. But every time we got to traffic there was a caution so we didn’t get a chance to race with him very much. We had a great car, just a few things went wrong.”

Starks ended with a runner-up result, which marked his sixth podium finish in the last seven races.

“We got a lot of laps for when the Outlaws come this weekend so that was a positive,” he said.

Starks will drive for Rutz this Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway during the 9th annual Oil City Cup with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
