Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Aug. 19, 2015) – The 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown will feature the Big Al Sportsmanship Award, which will include a custom plaque for an outstanding individual.

A driver, car owner or team representative who demonstrates the values shown by Al Tschider – known as Big Al in the racing community – will be selected as the recipient during the final night of the premier 410ci sprint car event at Cocopah Speedway on Jan. 1-2, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9, 2016.

“Big Al was a selfless person who wanted to make the world a better place,” Cocopah Speedway Director of Operations Greg Burgess said. “I was honored to know Big Al and was touched by his graciousness to others, especially children who were going through tough times.”

Big Al founded the Big Al Kids & Motorsports Foundation, which was created to provide motor sports trips and racing opportunities for children battling life-threatening conditions and illnesses. He helped a number of children and their families throughout the past several years before his sudden passing in early August.

“We have created the Big Al Sportsmanship Award to show our respect to him and to promote selflessness, generosity and love, which are qualities that Big Al showed us all,” Burgess said. “The award recipient will be someone who demonstrates those same traits throughout the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.”

Big Al had plans to attend the 2016 Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown. The event will work hard to preserve his memory.
