Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2015) – Danny Lasoski guided Big Game Treestands to a top 10 during the 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store last weekend at Knoxville Raceway.

However, he is anything but satisfied.

“We had one goal, which was to win,” he said. “This year was really different for me. I wasn’t racing for anything but to get that trophy for Tod (Quiring) and Guy (Forbrook). I put out 110 percent effort every time I hit the track. I’m devastated about the end result, but we’re not going to bury our heads. We’re going to try to win every race from here on out.”

The Muddy sponsored team kicked off the event last Thursday with Lasoski qualifying 14th quickest out of more than 55 competitors despite going out late to qualify.

“When you roll into the city limits your luck has to start there,” he said. “When you draw that little pill you have to have luck on your side. Unfortunately we drew a 54, which is the back row.”

Lasoski then maneuvered from sixth to win a heat race, which locked him into the main event.

“We’ve really got our heat race program where the car has been mobile,” he said. “Guy has done a great job of making it to where I can take it to the top and bottom and pass. It’s made my job a lot easier. That helped us get some points.”

Lasoski was the final driver to make the eight-car feature inversion, which lined him up on the pole for the 25-lap feature.

“We took off and the race car was able to go anywhere,” he said. “After a caution about halfway I felt like there was water under the tires. All I did was slip and slide. When the race was over you could shave in them. We sealed them up.”

Lasoski led the first 14 laps before he ended with a runner-up finish. However, the Muddy backed team earned the sixth-most points through preliminary competition to garner the sixth starting position for Saturday’s $150,000-to-win, 50-lap feature. It marked the 25th Knoxville Nationals A Main start for Lasoski.

“The calmness level for our team was phenomenal,” he said. “We were all very positive. We knew we’d have to be on top of our game to run with (Donny Schatz). His team has been about unbeatable. We were really confident, but knew our work was cut out for us.”

Lasoski quickly maneuvered into the runner-up position by racing through the middle of the track. He closed in on Schatz for the lead when the planned halfway caution came out, sending the teams into the infield for a five-minute caution.

“That’s the benefit of having a veteran crew chief,” he said. “You can’t beat somebody if you have to follow them. The first 25 laps the wheels never slipped. It was a phenomenal sight to see the No. 15 (of Schatz) get closer and closer. When we came in for our five minutes pit stop we put on two new tires and fuel in it. For whatever reason it wasn’t the same car. I was in trouble from the drop of the green.”

Lasoski held on to second place for several laps before he gradually faded to an eighth-place finish, which marked his 18th career top 10 during the event.

The Muddy sponsored team will return to FVP National Sprint League competition this Friday at Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., and Saturday at Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa.
