Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (Aug. 18, 2015) – Cody Wampler registered his third straight podium finish and his second win during the last three weeks on Saturday at Lawton Speedway.

“It was another good night,” he said. “Things are definitely turning around and we’re getting a handle on the car. We were really good all night.”

Wampler advanced from fifth to win his heat race in the Randall Buzbee owned champ sprint. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event at the bullring.

“The track was really slick with a cushion up top,” he said. “We made some adjustments on the car with the shocks and a gear change. It really calmed it down on the cushion, which wasn’t quite as rough as it was the previous week.”

Wampler was running 10th during an early caution around Lap 4.

“After that caution I was able to get to the top and I think we picked off three cars and had another caution on Lap 7,” he said. “Then it felt like we just got better and really started making moves. Everybody else was struggling to get ahold of the track.

“The cushion was getting really high and the harder we drove it in there the better we got. We were into second around Lap 12 or 13. Then I started reeling in the leader. We had a caution on Lap 15 or 16. I had a plan and felt like I was good enough to pass him. The bottom in turns one and two was not very good, but in turns three and four it looked like it was getting better in the middle. My plan was to get momentum and be on his tail in turns one and two and make a move in turns three and four. On the restart he dove down in turn one and I was able to pick up more momentum and I came up on him out of turn two. Going into turn three I took the lead.”

Wampler led the final circuits to score his second victory of the season.

“It was just a fun night of driving,” he said. “That was a good win for us.”

Wampler returns to competition this Saturday at Lawton Speedway.
