Tankersley Enters ASCS Gulf South Doubleheader Within Striking Distance of Championship

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Aug. 18, 2015) – Following a month-long break from action Channin Tankersley enters this weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader only two points out of the lead in the championship standings.

“Unfortunately we’ve had a lot of rainouts so we’ve already had a lot of down time,” he said. “It was a nice little break though. I wish it wouldn’t have been four weeks, but I did some mod lite racing now and then to stay a little fresh.”

Tankersley returns to sprint car competition this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, where he was victorious the last time out.

“As small as the track is it gets pretty racy in the A Main,” he said. “I’ve been there maybe two dozen times in my career and I think every night it’s been multi-groove and racy. It’s a great place to race. You can run two or three wide if you need to. It usually has a good bottom and a good top.”

The weekend wraps up on Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas. Tankersley finished fourth at the track last year in his most recent appearance.

“That’s a place I’m not very familiar with,” he said. “I’ve run two races in total. One night we ran fourth and the other night we were taken out in a crash on the first lap. Every time I’ve been there it’s been fast. It has decently long straightaways and sharper corners.”

Tankersley said his goal is consistency with a second straight championship on the line.

“We’re going out there to keep our nose clean and produce like we have been,” he said. “If we can run top three every night I’d be tickled to death.”

Tankersley has earned five consecutive top-five finishes, including three straight runner-up results.
