Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (Aug. 9, 2015) – Austen Wheatley will make his Midwest season debut this week during the 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store.
Wheatley is set to race Wednesday through Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, during the premier sprint car event.
“Every year you dream about doing well at the Knoxville Nationals,” he said. “Now it’s finally time to test ourselves against the best in the business.”
More than 100 of the top drivers in the world will invade the half-mile oval, where Wheatley has a career-best Nationals result of 14th place in the C Main during the 2011 event.
“Every time you hit the track you have to be on point so it’s very easy to get behind the eight ball during the Knoxville Nationals,” he said. “It’s critical to set your week up with a great qualifying lap and then stay on top of everything from that point on if you want to end up with a good result.”
Wheatley last competed at Knoxville Raceway during the event last year.
“We ended up missing the heat race inversion by three thousandths of a second during qualifying on our preliminary night last year, which really put us behind,” he said. “We had to play catch-up from that point so hopefully this year I’ll put down a good lap and make it easier.”
