Dupo, IL (July 27, 2015) There comes a time in the middle of the season where race parts start to show the effects of a lot of hard racing nights. Unfortunately for Kyle and his Schuett Racing team, this past weekend his Esslinger powered Boss Chassis began to show some of those signs. After what has been nearly a mechanically flawless beginning to the season, Kyle and his team experienced engine issues in both his primary and back-up cars this past weekend during POWRi’s Race Around the Arch events.
Friday night saw the Lucas Oil POWRi midgets making their season debut at the Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. With a limited number of cars making the trip to the extremely fast, 3/8 mile high banked track, Kyle found himself starting sixth in the second and final heat race. Although having raced here in a micro sprint, this was Kyle’s first attempt at a track like this in his Boss Chassis midget. After eight tough heat race laps, Kyle found himself gaining one spot and finishing in the fifth position. Based on passing points, Kyle lined up eighth in the 30 lap A-main event. Holding his own and running eighth, Kyle rolled to a stop on lap 21 when his Esslinger horsepower locked up and stopped running. Unfortunately for Schuett Racing, it is not a quick fix and will require the engine to be taken apart and repaired.
On Saturday night, the POWRi midgets rolled into the St. Francois County Speedway for night number two of the weekend. In heat race action, Kyle started on the pole of heat race number two in his back-up ?#?9K?. Unfortunately for the second night in a row, Kyle would have engine issues and would fall back to a fifth place finish. Based on passing points, Kyle lined up 10th in the 30 lap A-main, but the engine issues he was having would again cause him to retire from the race early.
While it was not the weekend that Kyle and his team hoped for, it was additional laps on two tracks that he had never raced his midget on before. Each night is more experience and more experience means better results down the road. Even with a tough weekend, Kyle still sits fourth in the POWRi point standings and is still leading the chase for the 2015 Rookie of the Year honors. The team will go to work this week and be ready for Haubstadt, Indiana this coming weekend. Be sure to follow Schuett Racing on Facebook for updates throughout the rest of the season.
