The USAC Southwest Sprint Cars take center stage at Canyon Speedway Park this Saturday night as the 1/3-mile clay oval roars back to life with the Allscapes Back to School Special.
Saturday’s tilt that follows an open practice on Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will also include the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Micro Sprints and Dwarf Cars. The green flag flies at 7:00 p.m.
The defending Western World Championships winner at CSP, Matt Rossi is also the most recent USAC Southwest victor at the Peoria racetrack after topping the Father’s Day Classic on June 20.
Rossi took command in the final handful of laps to take the win after R.J. Johnson had topped three of the four previous USAC Southwest Sprint Car events at CSP. Stevie Sussex also has a CSP win this year.
Gunning for another USAC Southwest title, Johnson holds a 56-point lead over Charles Davis, Jr., with Rossi, Sussex and Josh Pelkey also among the current top five.
In 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Garrett Funk brings a 16-point championship chase points lead into Saturday’s action with George Fronsman, Bo Partain and Bryson Curry among the top five.
After Funk took Father’s Day Classic honors in June, Steve Stultz scored his first win of the year during the July 11 Summer Sizzle card. Ricky Thornton, Jr., who has topped the Allscapes Back to School Special over each of the past two years, won the pair of events prior to Funk’s June 20 score.
Matt Martinez holds a six-point edge over Zack Madrid in the Arizona Differential Pure Stock points chase after having a three-race win streak snapped by the latter in Summer Sizzle action.
Cody Batten became the seventh different Micro Sprint winner in as many regular season events with his Summer Sizzle triumph while Cale Rudy became the fourth different winner in Dwarf Car action on the same night.
Tickets for Saturday’s Allscapes Back to School Special are just $16, with a $3 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
