Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (July 29, 2015) – Jack Dover knows nobody can win every race.
“I have to take the bad with the good,” he said.
Dover, who entered last weekend having won nine of his previous 12 races, endured a challenging weekend during three races in the Midwest. The weekend began last Friday at Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kan., during the preliminary round of the 59th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals.
Dover maneuvered from fifth to second place during a heat race, which lined him up on the pole of the 10-lap main event.
“In the feature I didn’t have enough gear in the car and got outpowered in the corners,” he said. “We weren’t too far off though. I led the first couple of laps and was running the bottom. Jeremy Campbell went around me up top. Once I moved up there he didn’t pull away, but I didn’t gain anything.”
Dover finished with a runner-up result, which marked his 13th consecutive podium finish. It also lined Dover up on the outside of the front row for Saturday’s main event, which he entered trying to become only the fourth driver to win three straight Hutchinson Grand Nationals.
“They brought all the cars from all the classes out for a parade lap,” he said. “We idled around for 10 or 12 laps and I developed a mechanical problem, which I wasn’t able to fix really quickly. It was just a freak deal.”
Dover was unable to start the main event and he was credited with a 16th-place result.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Double X Speedway for the ASCS Warrior Region’s Clyde Wood Memorial.
“We fired up the car on Sunday and my car didn’t sound right,” he said. “We messed around with it and missed hot laps. I finally got it fixed and we won our heat race. That put us fifth highest in points and we drew the No. 4 during the feature redraw.”
Dover quickly advanced into third place during the main event. After taking second place around Lap 5, Dover powered into the lead a handful of laps later.
“I led about 10 laps,” he said. “A red flag came out with a few laps remaining and when we restarted (Jonathan) Cornell got by me. I had a good battle with him and got a little over the cushion. I hit the wall coming out of turn two. It knocked the front end down.”
Dover was unable to finish the race and ended 15th.
He returns to action this Thursday and Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
