Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (July 28, 2015) – Kevin Swindell registered his third podium finish of the season last Saturday at Atomic Speedway.
Swindell, who teamed up with Bernie Stuebgen for the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association event, kicked off the night by qualifying third quickest out of the 27 competitors at the high-banked track.
“We were fast in hot laps,” he said. “In qualifying it was one lap and it wasn’t too bad.”
Swindell then advanced from fourth to second place during a heat race, which determined the starting lineup for the feature.
“I slid the leader coming to the checkered, but didn’t get it to stick,” he said. “They line the feature up based on the results from the heat race. Since I finished second in the third heat I started sixth. If I would have won the heat I would have started third in the feature.”
However, Swindell quickly maneuvered into third place during the main event.
“It took a few laps to get to third,” he said. “I had to figure out how hard I could run without bouncing off the fence. I just couldn’t run through the slick like they could. We just didn’t get it as tight as we needed it for a track like that.”
Swindell battled with Cole Duncan and Brandon Wimmer throughout the main event on the tricky track before sustaining a broken Jacobs Ladder in the closing laps en route to a third-place finish.
“I stayed pretty close the whole time,” he said. “I slid Duncan once in traffic. I was having to knock the fence down to keep up with them and they could go right through the middle.”
