Concord, NC— November 7, 2009— After 10 months and nearly 70 races, it all comes down to one final showdown between Donny Schatz and Jason Meyers to determine the 2009 World of Outlaws championship tonight LIVE on SPEED beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern with the finale of the third annual World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
The pair is separated by just 25 points heading into tonight’s race after Meyers was victorious for the second time in his career at the track on Friday night while Schatz finished a close second.
For Schatz to wrap up the title tonight, he would need to finish 12th or higher, no matter where Jason Meyers finishes. While Meyers can claim the championship if he wins and Schatz finishes 13th or lower. If Meyers does not win on Saturday night, he would need to finish at least 13 positions higher than Schatz on the track to win the title.
Entering the 2009 season finale, Schatz leads the series with 39 Top-Five finishes, while Meyers is on top of the leader board with 54 Top-10 runs. Schatz has finished on the podium in four consecutive events at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway and has 18 career Top-10 finishes at the track in 22 starts, including 10 consecutive finishes of eighth or better.
Meyers has 10 career Top-10 finishes at the state-of-the-art four-tenths-mile in 13 career starts, with each of the last seven being performances of eighth or better. The native of Clovis, California was victorious in the first-ever A-Feature event held during the World Finals in 2007. Dating back to August 22 at Dacotah Speedway, Meyers has finished eighth or better in 16 consecutive races down the stretch.
