EMILY VANINWEGEN WINS CRSA SPRINT CAR FEATURE AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY
Kirkwood, NY…The CRSA Sprint Tour returned to the Five Mile Point Speedway for their second appearance of the 2015 season. Twenty one cars signed in at the tight quarter mile oval. Young Emily VanInwegen of Sparrowbush, New York has been having a challenging season thus far on the CRSA Tour. Saturday night changed things with the Allstate/Escape RV/Johnson and Conroy sponsored team as they pulled off a very impressive victory for her first sprint car win of 2015, and second feature win of her very young career.
VanInwegen and Dalton Herrick lead the pack to Kenny Marshall’s green flag with Herrick taking the initial top spot only to have it called back for a caution for the spinning car of Dana Wagner. This would be the only caution of the twenty five lap main event. When the field regrouped and the green came back out, Herrick took the top spot with VanInwegen on his quarter panel side by side lap after lap. VanInwegen managed to get the upper hand going down the backstretch on lap number six. Herrick tagged on to her bumper followed closely by Mike Kiser and Josh Pieniazek.
As the cars came to the crossed flags VanInwegen had caught the tail of the field and started making her way through lapped traffic with Kiser, Herrick and Pieniazek racing side by side using all grooves of the racey quarter mile. At the fifteen lap mark the VanInwegen had the lead with Kiser on the top side of the track fighting off Pieniazek, Herrick and Scott Goodrich who moved into the fifth position.
Lap after lap VanInwegen controlled the top spot holding off all challenges to come home with a very hard fought and popular victory. Kiser settled for second with Pieniazek, Herrick, and Goodrich rounding out the top five in what was a very thrilling sprint car feature.
SPRINT NOTES: VanInwegen is only the second ever CRSA female feature winner with Brittany Tresch being the first. She also becomes the first ever female sprint car winner at the Five Mile Point Speedway. Brian Krummel and Brett Jaycox had problems and retired to the pits on the warm-up lap unable to start the feature. Dustin Purdy’s bad luck continued as he had his front wing damaged on the initial start and had to pull pitside. Sean Hosey, an Ohio college student, made his first CRSA start. The battle for the point championship tightened up with Josh Pieniazek, Kyle Smith, and Dalton Herrick within points of each other. CRSA heads to Utica-Rome tonight for the second race of a double-header weekend. The tour will then return to action in two weeks returning to the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York.
