Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 21, 2015) – Joe Trenca registered his best career result at Eldora Speedway last weekend with the NRA Sprint Invaders.
The Mucci Motorsports driver garnered his first career top 15 at the half-mile track during the 32nd annual Kings Royal weekend, which featured a tricky track both nights.
“It was an ok weekend,” he said. “The track conditions we had weren’t conducive to passing with the 360s. It’s very hard to make up ground because everyone is the same speed. It was a little disappointing. I wish we could have got to race more, but it’s always fun to go to Eldora. Tony Stewart does a great job keeping it as one of the best tracks in the world.”
Friday kicked off with Trenca qualifying 18th quickest. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for a heat race, in which he ended third to lock himself into the feature. Trenca then spent most of the feature battling just outside the top 10 before he finished with a 15th-place result.
“It’s good we made the show and finished, but it’s not really close to what we’re looking for,” he said. “Last year we destroyed a car at Eldora so a top 15 isn’t too terrible. The track was heavy both nights. After the first lap everyone got spread out and there wasn’t much passing. With the 360 we were wide open and barely turning.”
Trenca timed in 16th quickest during qualifying on Saturday. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row of a heat race, which ended with Trenca placing fifth. That sent him to the B Main where he rallied from ninth to sixth.
“We just couldn’t go anywhere,” he said. “In the B Main I just barely missed a transfer. It was just a tough track to pass on. We did learn some things for the next time we’ll go back there though.”
Trenca will return to action this Thursday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour. He will then race with the World of Outlaws on Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., before tackling the Six Nations Showdown on Monday and Tuesday at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada.
“I like going to Ohsweken,” he said. “It’s a fun track and we usually do pretty good there.”
Trenca made his World of Outlaws debut at Ohsweken Speedway last year. He won the Last Chance Showdown before advancing from 24th to 15th in the main event.
