Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 21, 2015) – Dale Blaney didn’t have the Kings Royal weekend he hoped for last Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway.
Blaney exited the track early during both World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series main events at the half-mile oval, which marked the first time that the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team was unable to record a top-10 finish during two consecutive races this season.
“It was a frustrating weekend,” he said. “We just never had a whole lot of speed. On Friday we qualified ok, but we went out at a good time. Then we didn’t get a very good start in the heat race and we weren’t very good in the A Main. It wasn’t the night that we wanted.”
Blaney timed in fifth quickest in his group and he placed third in a heat race to lock himself into the 14th starting position for the Knight Before the Kings Royal main event, which ended early because of a power steering problem. He ended with a 22nd-place result.
“We stuck another motor in for Saturday and we thought we’d qualify better, but for whatever reason we qualified a lot worse and just didn’t get any better,” he said. “That motor is never out of the top 10 and rarely out of the top five during qualifying.”
Blaney qualified 24th quickest, which started the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team on the outside of the front row of the final heat race on Saturday.
“If I could have put a number down where I wanted to qualify at the beginning of the night it would have been 24,” he said. “We were in the ideal spot, but I’d much rather have qualified fifth overall and knew I had a fast car and tried to work my way through there rather than backing into 24th. Then in the heat race we struggled.”
Blaney finished second in the heat race, which had been delayed more than four hours because of a storm, to garner the 12th starting position for the 32nd annual, $50,000-to-win Kings Royal main event.
“In the feature we just weren’t very good,” he said. “I had a vibration start around Lap 5. The way the track was it was going to be hard to really move forward if you didn’t have a fast car. Motor was everything.”
Blaney pulled off the track around the midpoint of the 40-lap feature with a 20th-place result.
He is scheduled to compete on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup with the World of Outlaws before racing Friday at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, Mich., and Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.
