Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (July 20, 2015) – Austen Wheatley will return to his sprint car for the first time in more than three months this weekend at Skagit Speedway.
Wheatley is set to compete this Friday and Saturday during the 26th annual Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals at the high-banked track.
“I think it will be cool because it will be the first time out in our KPC Chassis,” he said. “We made the swap this summer and I’m excited to race with KPC.”
The $10,000-to-win Summer Nationals will be Wheatley’s first race since April 18, when he was running second during a 410ci sprint car event at Skagit Speedway before a mechanical problem sidelined him early.
It will also be his first 360ci race since the Trophy Cup last October.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that we can win it,” he said. “The 360 stuff is so different than the 410 stuff, especially at Skagit. The last time I was in a 360 there I felt like momentum was key. It was easy to lose it and hard to make it. However, Skagit is probably the most comfortable track in the country for me. I feel like I could not race there for five years and pick up where I left off.”
Wheatley has finished in the top 10 during eight of his nine races at Skagit Speedway the past two years.
